Aside from the reasons that should determine our use of all investigations there are two particular issues that relate to these tests: c NCS/EMG is at best uncomfortable, at worst painful, for the patient—despite the neurophysiologist’s best efforts c NCS/EMG are expensive, although this cost is borne by the health care system. They take 30–60 minutes of a neurophysiologist’s time, a scarce and expensive resource.

The Relationship between Nerve Conduction Studies and Electromyography Findings in Patients with Carpal Tunnel Syndrome
Background: Carpal tunnel syndrome is the most common neuropathy in the general population. Nerve conduction studies are among the standard methods for diagnosing carpal tunnel syndrome. Electromyography is painful and unpleasant, and if nerve conduction studies can be used to diagnose axonal injury in carpal tunnel syndrome, electromyography might be replaced. Objectives: This study aimed t...
متن کاملAcute Combined Median and Radial Nerve Palsies after Distal Humeral Shaft Fracture
We report a case of a 29-year-old man who presented with a distal humeral shaft fracture sustained by blunt trauma. Physicalexamination and nerve conduction study were consistent with injury to the median and radial nerves proximal to theelbow. The patient underwent open reduction and internal fixation of the humeral shaft fracture with neurolysis of the medianand radial nerves. Repeat electrom...
متن کاملPrevalence of Concurrent Disorders of Ulnar Nerve Entrapment at the Elbow and Carpal Tunnel Syndrome Ahvaz Imam Khomeini Hospital During 2009 to 2012
Carpal tunnel syndrome (CTS) is the most well-known and frequent form of median nerve entrapment, and accounts for 90% of all entrapment neuropathies. Entrapment neuropathies of the ulnar nerve are relatively common with ulnar neuropathy at the elbow more prevalent than ulnar neuropathy at the wrist. The diagnosis of ulnar neuropathy at the elbow is usually confirmed in a relatively straight – ...

Quite frequently, podiatrists are faced with difficult patients without an obvious diagnosis. These are patients who may have seen several other specialists who were also stumped by the patient's disease. Often this type of patient involves laboratory testing which includes nerve conduction studies and electromyography. A case of such a patient will be reviewed here. An explanation of how to re...
